I totally agree, linivg above reproach is an important aspect in the lives of christians, however: who says that van wasn't driven by 2 missionaries determined to make a change. Jesus sat with sinners and cared more about the impact of his ministry than the status of his reputation. The world sees things and only takes one single-minded thought on it, but it is our job as philosophers to inspect every angle for a another possible solution to what we see. ~ AlexanderB.
